“Liars” Bridge

A water channel once ran between the houses at the end of Spitalgasse, this was known as the “fire” brook. In the Middle Ages, every town had to have a water source of this kind. On the bridge connecting the Main Square and the Lower Square, the people of St. Veit met to chat. And since much of what was exchanged there was untrue, the bridge was given the name “Lügenbrückl”, which means liars’ bridge.
